Security and privacy of information on the mobile platform is getting increasingly important. Business executives and Gen Y – the 2 segments that is more used to store date and important information on their handsets. So information security on mobiles has become a hot topic in recent years and will continue to be so in 2015.

In 2014, there were some high-profile cyber-attacks on Government as well as private organizations, business and individuals and continued atrocities of internet hooligans have turned our attention to some most important topics like data privacy and protection, surveillance and encryption more than ever before. Vulnerability of information to notorious cyber gangs can cause ‘calamities’ in several and in the most severe ways. That explains importance of mobile security in 2015 and in fact, even beyond that.

In the event of security breach, organizations or even individuals lose many valuable things that are never limited to loss of sensitive and valuable data. If it is a company, then data theft may damage their reputation and it will take them years to recoup their lost fame and reputation. If you are running a business or a non-profitable organization, the importance of mobile security cannot be stressed enough. Leakage of important data in regards to your company’s finance, employees’ profiles and other sensitive documents could pose a threat to your business and also others working in your company.

Let us turn our attention to the most touted cyber crime in the last year. The incident surfaced in November, involving one of the most prominent bellwethers in the industry – Sony Pictures Entertainment. GOP or Guardians of Peace was the hacker group involved in the theft of crucial date from the company. It was claimed that 100TB data was stolen and that included information of 47, 000 social security members, celebrity tidbits and also information of film industry mechanism from internal emails. However, it was a political twist that earned the hacking world-wide media coverage.

The GOP claimed that the theft data also included a comedy – The Interview – and it was about a cancelled plot of assassinating Kim Jong-un, supreme leader of North Korea. The identity of the hacker group is still unknown though USA pointed fingers at North Korea which expectedly quashed away the charges. We do not predict if we will see such kinds of attacks in the ongoing year but there is not a shade of doubt that 2015 will have its fair share of headline-hitting mobile security issues.
